About Glostats

Live world & country statistics, built openly on official data.

What is Glostats?

Glostats is a live statistics dashboard for the world and its 238 countries and territories. It shows real-time population counters, births and deaths this year, historical charts, an interactive world map, country rankings, and the latest headlines for every country — all in one place, free, with no account required.

Start with the world overview, browse all countries, or explore the interactive map.

Methodology — how the live counters work

Live counters are statistical extrapolations of the latest official estimates — UN World Population Prospects country baselines and growth rates — advanced every second; they are estimates, not counts.

Nobody counts people in real time. Each country starts from its most recent official baseline population and demographic rates (birth, death, migration and growth rates). Your browser then advances that baseline second by second, which is why the numbers tick while you watch. The result is a well-founded estimate of the current figure — the true value at any instant is unknowable, and small differences from other estimates (or from reality) are expected. Historical charts, by contrast, show the official recorded series exactly as published by their sources.

Data sources

Everything shown on Glostats comes from these sources or is computed directly from them (for example rankings, densities and trend directions). Nothing is invented.
